Who is Joseph Watso?
Dr. Watso earned his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science in 2015 from Salisbury University in Maryland before getting his Ph.D. in Applied Physiology at the University of Delaware in 2019. As of July, he is an assistant professor at the College of Health and Human Sciences at Florida State and directs the Cardiovascular and Applied Physiology Laboratory with the mission to "advance knowledge on cardiovascular disease prevention and treatment strategies." Throughout his career, he has been awarded almost a million dollars in extramural funds as the principal investigator for his research, has been published 32 times, and cited 265 times. Most recently, he earned a Judge Travel Award to attend the 2022 Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minoritized Scientists in November.
What is he currently working on?
Watso has two registered clinical trials estimated to start in 2023 that will investigate muscle strength training and breathing exercises for adults with obesity. His laboratory website states his motivation is due to the fact that heart disease is the number one cause of death in the United States. His site also offers information regarding current science in the field of biomedical research to promote health.
